Angel (Little, Brown, $17.99) is the penultimate book in James Patterson’s #1 New York Times bestselling series Maximum Ride. The series is composed of seven books based around Max, a fifteen year old winged mutant, and her mission to save the world. Throughout the books Max and her “flock” fights against everything from wolf mutants to blood thirsty robots in efforts to destroy evil. All seven books, including Angel, are packed with page flipping action, and plots that will have you eager for more.
In this book Max is heartbroken and devastated because her fist love and best friend, Fang, left her and the flock without much explanation. In the midst of it all, Dylan, (Max’s engineered “perfect other half”) is being thrown at her with intentions of them having a relationship as the scientific engineers who made him had planned. Max being assigned to save the world also encounters a group called the Doomsday Group, which wants to “cleanse” the earth by ending the human race and only leaving some genetically modified people behind. With so many things at hand Max has to decide what to take care of and what to put off for later.
James Patterson is also well known for his other series Witch and Wizard and the Women’s Murder Club. He was also the selected Children’s Choice Awards author of 2010 and his books have sold over 205 million copies worldwide.
