The Help is a novel written by Kathryn Stockett. It is about African-American maids who are working for white families in Jackson Mississippi. The main characters in the book are Minny, Aibileen, and Miss Skeeter. Miss Skeeter knew Aibileen because she was friends with her boss. Miss Skeeter is writer and is friends with Aibileen boss.
Miss Skeeter decided to write a book about The Help working for white families, telling their stories and how it feels. She secretly asked Minny if she and her maid friends would help her write it by telling her their stories. Minny agreed to help and eventually got some of her friends to help also. The maids and Miss Skeeter had to be very careful not to get caught while writing the book because they could get into a lot of trouble.
Eventually they finished the book. They titled it the Help and instead of putting their names on it they put: by Anonymous. When everyone in town started talking about the book Minny and Aibileen’s maid went and bought a copy. They eventually found out the book was about them so they fired them and told their friends to fire their maids too.
I really enjoyed this book. I got to see how it felt in the 1960’s from white persons point a view and a black person. The Help taught me not to treat someone different just because they don’t look the same way as you.
