St. Jude’s Mathathon for OA students to raise money for the St. Jude’s Hospital by collecting sponsors and working on math problems. Children in grades K-8 may participate. It turns out to be a very easy program. A highly independent, motivator, named Pranav Koyande, 1B, 6 years old, raised the most money for the mathathon. He worked from Nov. 9 – Nov. 30. Pranav did this to help raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital by taking sponsors and working on math problems.
Pranav says, “I took sponsors from other people and did the math book.” He says his parents helped him by taking sponsors and he does the math work. “It was easy. You just take the sponsors and does the math work. That’s all.” It took him 3 days to get all of his money together and 2 days to finish his math book. While working so hard all by himself, Pranav raised $160.00. His experience was just learning math. He says that he had fun and everything seemed easy, even the math.
Kardelen Sertsoz, 9A, 14 years old, started this program for Harmony. She says, “I started this program because, I wanted to benefit young children and help with their math. The background on it was that children collect pledges for doing math problems. The money goes to supporting cost of St. Jude. It cost $1.7 million a day to run St. Jude’s. This program helps young children at St. Jude and elementary schools with their math work.
This program is very fun and helpful. It helps young ones learn math and at the same time it helps children at the St. Jude’s Hospital.
